Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon said on Thursday morning that the attempted murder of Yehuda Glick is another phase of the escalation of violence by Palestinians against Jews and the State of Israel.
Ya'alon said when Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas spreads lies about the Jewish right to land and to practice religion, the result is terror, like what happened to Glick.
"It is more proof why we are constantly saying: the conflict is not about territory, rather about the refusal of Palestinians to live in Israel with restrictions," he said.
"I am calling for restraint in Jerusalem. Security forces will continue to catch terrorists and hold a strong hand against them."
Israeli police shot dead a Palestinian on Thursday after he fired at them resisting arrest in east Jerusalem hours after the attempted assassination of a far-right Israeli activist, police said.
"Anti-terrorist police units surrounded a house in the Abu Tor neighborhood to arrest a suspect in the attempted assassination of Yehuda Glick, immediately upon arrival they were shot at. They returned fire and shot and killed the suspect," police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.
