Private investigators have assessed that Bernard Sherman (75) and his wife Honey (70) were murdered by multiple killers, according to a report by CBC Toronto.
The couple was found dead in the basement of their Toronto home on December 15, 2017. Both were strangled, and rumors circulated that the cause of death may have been a murder-suicide. However, those close to the couple insisted from the get-go that this was unlikely, and a team of private investigators hired by the Sherman family has now concluded that their death was most probably the result of a professional contract killing.
The team also believes that the couple was actually killed two days before they were found, on December 13.
Sherman is the founder and chairman of the pharmaceutical company Apotex. He and his wife were widely known for their generous philanthropy in Canada and throughout the Jewish world.
In addition to donating some $39 million to the United Jewish Appeal, Sherman was a fundraiser for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party.
Honey Sherman sat on the boards of several Jewish organizations, including Mount Sinai’s Women’s Auxiliary, the Simon Wiesenthal Center and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.
The couple donated millions to local hospitals, schools and charities.
