Herzog criticizes Netanyahu for sparring with the White House on Iran

New Labor leader says will meet soon with Abbas in Ramallah; urges PM not to delay agreement with the Palestinians.

In their first meeting since he won the Labor leadership race, Isaac Herzog on Thursday criticized Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for sparring with the US and said he should work to improve ties with the White House.
Herzog, who won beat former leader Shelly Yacimovich to win the Labor race last week, informed Netanyahu that he intends to meet soon in Ramallah with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas at the invitation of the Palestinian leader.
"I made clear to the prime minister that he should no longer delay deciding the Palestinian issue and if he chooses to make history Labor under me will give him the necessary support," Herzog said.
Thursday's meeting between Netanyahu and Herzog was the first briefing that the the Prime Minister gave to the new Labor leader.
The prime minister must brief the opposition leader on security issues monthly by law. Netanyahu and Herzog spoke on Iran and the peace process with the Palestinians.
