US Rep. Lowey: Upcoming talk by Beck in Knesset ‘foolish'

Visiting congresswoman says conservative pundit "is on the fringe," does not represent mainstream US views.

US Rep. Nita M. Lowey (D-New York) spoke out on Tuesday against US conservative pundit Glenn Beck’s upcoming visit to the Knesset.
“Glenn Beck is on the fringe,” Lowey, who visited the Knesset as a part of the International Conference of Jewish Parliamentarians, told The Jerusalem Post. “He doesn’t represent the Democrats’ or the Republicans’ views. It’s unfortunate that he’s getting this publicity.

“This is a free country, and people are free to invite whoever they want, but I don’t understand why or wherefore someone would bring Glenn Beck” to speak in the Knesset, Lowey said.
On Monday, MK Danny Danon (Likud) announced that Beck would address the Knesset Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs Committee, which Danon heads, on July 11.
Beck plans to discuss how Israel can recruit its friends in the US to fight delegitimization, and to film the committee meeting in anticipation of a mega-event in Jerusalem on August 24.
Lowey said it would be “counterproductive and foolish” to bring Beck to speak in the legislature, because he “does not represent a mainstream view.”
Danon said in response: “I am proud to host and cooperate with anyone who supports us and expresses it in every forum possible.”
