Peace Now activist Hagit Ofran was personally targeted for the third time early Monday morning when extremists entered her apartment building in Jerusalem and spray painted “Hagit (of blessed memory) – You’re Dead!”
Ofran heads the Settlement Watch division of Peace Now.
“We hope the police will find whoever did this,” said Peace Now director Yariv Oppenheimer. “Maybe the government and the MKs and the settlers think they can continue to scare people, but we’re not scared and we will continue our fight.”
Oppenheimer said he had no idea why the extremists targeted Ofran and not other activists with Peace Now. He hypothesized that the attack was in response to the upcoming forced relocation of the Migron outpost by August 1.
In November, Ofran’s apartment building was spray-painted with the words “Rabin is waiting for you” and “Hagit Ofran z’l” (of blessed memory). Swastikas were also spray-painted on the building, just days before the Jewish anniversary of the assassination of prime minister Yitzhak Rabin at the hands of a right-wing extremist.
Two months earlier, vandals wrote “Peace Now, the end is near,” “Revenge,” “Migron Forever” and “Death to traitors” in the stairwell of Ofran’s building. Pricetag vandals have also attacked the Peace Now offices in the German Colony neighborhood of Jerusalem.
