President Shimon Peres will launch on Sunday a video clip aimed at encouraging the public to go out and vote.

The launch will take place at the President’s Residence with the participation of Central Elections Committee chairman and Supreme Court Justice Elyakim Rubinstein, and actor, comedian, journalist and television host Eyal Kitzis, best known for anchoring the popular satire TV show Eretz Nehederet (“Wonderful Country”).

  • On Peres, peace – and no peace

Kitzis appears with Peres in the video clip which is part of a campaign headlined “a voter brings a friend.”

The clip, which will be released on various social media platforms, is designed to bring out the masses for the 19th Knesset vote in reaction to voter apathy during the last two or three national elections.

In the clip, Peres and Kitzis urge members of the electorate to exercise their democratic right, regardless of which party they may favor.

Kitzis volunteered his services for the clip that was produced by Yaron Shilon, one of the directors of Eretz Nehederet, and scripted by Sari Alfi.

Those who view the clip on Facebook will be able to invite four friends to confirm that they are also going to vote in the January 22 election.

Exercising the right to vote is one of the most important obligations in a democracy, says Peres, because it ensures that each voter has some influence, no matter how small, on the future of the nation. The voter turnout for 18th Knesset election in 2009 indicated that 35 percent of those eligible did not exercise their right to vote, and Peres is concerned the percentage may be even higher this time around.

A group of 12th grade students from around Jerusalem who have all turned 18 are expected to be among the guests at Sunday’s launch.

Peres wants to impress on them how important it is that they don’t squander their electoral right.
