In a surprise move, Nir Hefetz, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's chief spokesman, announced his resignation Monday night.Hefetz, who came to the Prime Minister's Office from Yedioth Ahronoth in the summer of 2009, issued a statement saying he recently informed Netanyahu that he wanted to leave his position and return to the private sector.RELATED:Gidi Shmerling to join PM’s Office as spokesman"I thank the prime minister for the privilege given me to serve the country under his leadership, and for the trust he put in me," Hefetz said.Netanyahu issued a statement thanking Hefetz for his "dedicated and professional service," and wished him well on his new path.Hefetz's announcement followed by just five days the announcement by Netanyahu's political advisor, Shalom Shlomo, that he was leaving his position after serving Netanyahu in that capacity for some five years. Both men are considered close Netanyahu confidants.
