Opposition leader Tzipi Livni on Monday spoke out about a spate of new proposed legislation which she labeled "Draconian and anti-Zionist laws."The Kadima leader made the comments at a Knesset discussion of a bill by which any justice appointed by the Supreme Court president would face a public hearing in the Knesset Law, Constitution and Justice Committee, which would have the right to disqualify the judge from serving in the High Court. "If all these bills succeed, the govt will be able to do whatever it wants," Livni told the Knesset.She accused Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu of acting out of fear of the "right-wing extremists" in his coalition.Livni stated that it should be the Knesset's role "to defend Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, not to turn us into a dark dictatorship that silences those critical of the government."The Opposition leader called for "a front with members of all factions to make this voice heard and fight the attempt to take over Israel."
