'My atheism is no threat to the church'

Goebbels notes in a diary entry in 1939 a conversation in which Hitler had "expressed his revulsion against Christianity...Christianity had corrupted and infected the entire world of antiquity." Albert Speer reports in his memoirs a similar statement made by Hitler: "You see, it's been our misfortune to have the wrong religion. Why didn't we have the religion of the Japanese, who regard sacrifice for the Fatherland as the highest good? The Mohammedan religion too would have been much more compatible to us than Christianity. Why did it have to be Christianity with its meekness and flabbiness?"

The documents show the different steps involved in the persecution, including the campaign to suppress denominational and youth organizations, denominational schools, and the use of defamation against clergy, in the press, speeches, etc. They show that the Nazis early on wanted the Churches neutralized out of fear they would oppose Nazi plans based on racism and aggressive wars. The Nazis planned to infiltrate churches and use defamation, arrest, assault and/or kill clergy, and "re-educate" church congregations. They also suppressed denominational schools and Christian youth organizations.

One senior member of the U.S. prosecution team at Nuremberg, General Donovan, as part of his work on documenting Nazi war crimes, compiled large amounts of documentation that the Nazis persecuted Christian Churches. Donovan's documents include almost 150 bound volumes currently stored at Cornell University, which state "Important leaders of the National Socialist party would have liked to meet this situation [church influence] by complete extirpation of Christianity and the substitution of a purely racial religion," said an OSS report in July 1945.

Atheists judge matters by evidence and do not accept the judgments of those who rely on Authority for truth – the Bible is that authority for Christians. What evidence do you have for the claims of the Bible? If there's none must we take it on faith like you do? You can accuse Atheists of not having faith that the “Invisible Pink Unicorn” exists, but they will consider the scientific evidence and get back to you. Christians, I suppose, lack faith in the Unicorn, and that in itself is a faith in the non-existence of Unicorn. As for the faith in self? Self-esteem good, Christian hubris bad.

If we must compare every atheist leader to Stalin, should we not compare a religious leader with every other gods believing ruler from the entirety of human history? Religious leaders would include Caligula, Nero, Hitler, Atilla the Hun, Ayatollah Khomeini, Idi Amin, Leopold II, Vlad Tepes, Ivan IV, Oliver Cromwell, and the list goes on. As it is only recently that any leader has dared to state their disbelief in god, we can ascribe all of humanities evil works over thousands and thousands of years to those who claim the existence of gods.

Does it really matter if the Australian leader is an athiest? technically there are many western leaders that might be refered to as Christian, however they never openly speak of their faith & their actions & policies would never indicate it. These supposed Christian leaders routinely condemn Israel. They allow the murder of pre-birth human babies by the millions. They have instituted Somomite laws, etc. All of these being contrary to true Christianity. At the same time they marginallize those who are true Christians. They are Christian by name only! But genuine atheists by their actions!

People should realise that less than 10% of Australians attend any form of church and that Christianity is rapidly declining in Australia despite the modern versions of church denominations that have sprung up. Many Aussies reject the prosperity gospel and are turning in droves instead to Buddhism and the new age movement. Australia needs strong Bible based churches to send missionaries here and to wake up our nation to the Gospel of Christ once again as our own churches have traded away the original gospel for the prosperity gospel and we are reaping what we have sown....

What atheism has to do with the oath on the Bible. This good Lady never heard about symbols? What is the meaning of the bible in western world? It is just the symbol of the origin of our culture, it is the symbol of the Law. In front of that Islam is developping an opposite civilisation where symbols are overpowered, and a lot of people even here like that. Don't impoverish your culture otherwise you are dead

Australia's in for a real ride. She can believe what she chooses but, most people do believe in G-d. If she refuses to swear on a bible, I suspect she has an agenda that most Aussies wont approve of. I may be wrong but, she most likely wont be a friend to Israel either.

Which is it--Hitler was Catholic, or Christian? These are not synonymous terms. Hitler was never in any Biblical sense a Christian. In fact, Hitler was a syncretic pagan revivalist. The historical record of Hitler and his close inner circle clearly shows that by adult choice he was not Catholic in belief and practice. He was creating another type of pagan religion is more like it.
