The police determined that the migrants were taken in a cargo vehicle by an unknown driver and left at the Slovenian border after having been subject to "inhumane conditions" during the drive.
Among the infected passengers, three have died, one is critically ill, and three are experiencing mild symptoms.
Police arrested the driver, identifying him as a 33-year-old man with German citizenship. They said there was no further danger.
