Major demonstrations began on December 28, when Tehran's bazaar merchants closed their shops and took to the streets in anger over the country's growing financial difficulties.
One Iranian official told The Telegraph that “the establishment has never felt as threatened by protests as it does now.”
Both TIME Magazine and the BBC reported hundreds of protesters killed in Iran, with several hospitals in Tehran entering crisis mode due to an overflow of wounded patients.
Referring to the Islamic Republic's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Pahlavi said, “I am certain that he has seen these images from his hiding place and trembled in fear.”
Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X, responded to a user’s request to update the emoticon on Friday, with “Give me a few hours” before the update went into effect early on Saturday.
Iran condemns “the ongoing, unlawful, and irresponsible conduct of the United States of America, in coordination with the Israeli regime," Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani wrote.
"Mr. President, this is an urgent and immediate call for your attention, support, and action," Pahlavi wrote on X, and asked him to "be prepared to intervene to help the people of Iran."
The decision came as the protests in Iran approached their 14th consecutive day, with riots and violent clashes reported in several cities.
A flydubai spokesperson said that flights to Iran on Friday had been canceled and that the airline "will continue to monitor the situation" and revise its flight schedule accordingly.
The inquiry surfaced as internet monitors and media reported near-total connectivity loss across Iran, renewing attention on satellite internet as a tool to bypass state shutdowns.
The demonstrations, which began in Tehran last month, have spread to all of Iran's 31 provinces but have yet to reach the scale of the 2022-3 unrest sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini.
