Popular Israeli singer in serious condition after saving drowning relative
This comes after undergoing chemotherapy last year.

Celebrated Israeli singer Amir Fay Guttman, who rose to stardom in the ’90s performing in the popular boyband Hi Five, was in serious condition after nearly drowning Saturday while rescuing a relative near Haifa.Police said Guttman, who was misdiagnosed with Lymphoma one year ago, was at an unrecognized beach in Atlit, south of the port city with some friends and family when a young female relative went into the water and began drowning and he went in to pull her out.“After he managed to get her to safety, he nearly drowned and was treated at the scene by paramedics and rushed to an area hospital in serious condition,” said Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld.According to his biography on A Wider Bridge, an organization that works to empower Israel’s LGBTQ community, Guttman, who is gay and married, began his career as a journalist and model.In 1996, following his military service, he joined an entertainment group at an Eilat hotel and was selected, along with Eyal Shahar, Michael Harpaz, Idan Yaskin and Eyal Dessau, to join Hi Five. The band went on to record three gold albums before breaking up in 2000, at which time Guttman became a successful solo artist.Upon releasing his second solo album, Honey Hives, in 2007, Guttman became a gay rights activist.
