Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon approved on Sunday a series of senior appointments and a reshuffle within the IDF General Staff.
The appointments, made jointly by IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz and his incoming successor, Maj.-Gen. Gadi Eizenkot, will see the head of Central Command, Maj.-Gen. Nitzan Alon, become the head of the Operations Branch, replacing Maj.-Gen. Yoav Har-Even, who has held the position for the past two and a half years.
The IDF named the new head of the Central Command, which holds jurisdiction over Judea and Samaria, as Maj.-Gen. Roni Numa, who had been head of the IDF Depth Command, in charge of operations in distant arenas.
Maj.-Gen. Tal Russo, who had in the past served as southern commander, will become the new head of the Depth Command.
Brig.-Gen. Yoel Strick, currently commander of the company and battalion commanders’ course, will be promoted and appointed as the new Home Front Command chief, the IDF said, thereby replacing Maj.-Gen. Eyal Eizenberg, who has held that position for the past three and a half years.
The IDF said the dates of the change overs will be announced in the near future.
