The Anti-Defamation League on Wednesday condemned a spate of vandalism targeting Rutgers Hillel and Chabad and Jewish-owned stores in Highland Park, New Jersey in a crime spree that took place over the past few days.
Over Thanksgiving weekend, the windows of Rutgers Hillel in New
Brunswick were shattered by a brick, and early on Wednesday in Highland
Park and New Brunswick, three kosher restaurants, two Judaica shops, and
a Jewish-owned hardware store had their windows broken, according to
authorities.
“We are appalled by the targeting of Jewish stores and Jewish campus
institutions at Rutgers,” said Lawrence Cooper, ADL New Jersey Regional
Board Chair.
“These shocking crimes target the entire Jewish community as these
locations appear to have been selected because of their Jewishness.
We’re confident that the police are doing everything they can to
identify and apprehend the perpetrators.”
