The Islamic Jihad on Sunday announced that it was temporarily suspending its ties with Hamas, Palestinian news agency Ma'an reported.
According to Israel Radio, the movement has accused the Gaza leaders of being responsible for the death of one of the group's members.
Ma'an reported Raed Qassim Jundeyeih died on Sunday after being shot the day earlier by Hamas police officers. According to the report, Hamas police went to  Gaza City on Saturday to deliver a summons to a member of the Jundeyeih family, when members of the family opened fire at the officers.
Ma'an reported that Jundeyeih was wounded in a subsequent gunfight.
The movement told Ma'an that Hamas members were responsible for Jundeyeih, describing his death as a "favor" to Israel.
According to the report, Jundeyeih was the head of a rocket-firing unit.
