Saudi woman pictured without hijab gets pounded with death threats

One social media user demanded: "Kill her and throw her corpse to the dogs."

A woman in Saudi Arabia is braving a wave of death threats after a picture of herself without wearing a hijab was posted to social media, the International Business Times reported Friday.
Under the Twitter account of Malak Al Shehri, a number of social media users in the Islamic Kingdom reacted with outrage, with one person exclaiming: "Kill her and throw her corpse to the dogs."
According to the Business Times who spoke with an unnamed source, Al Shehri told a group of friends she was going out without her hijab, and snapped a photo while strolling in Riyadh.

A hijab, or abaya, is a veil traditionally worn by women in Saudi Arabia and more conservative Muslim countries which covers the head and chest.
The tweet under Al Shehri's account has since been deleted, but death threats continue to pour in, with other social media users sharing the image.
"So many people retweeted it and what she did reached extremists, so she got threats,” the unnamed source said. “She deleted her tweets but they didn't stop, so she deleted her account."
Following the controversy, an Arabic hashtag went viral which translated into English reads: “we demand the imprisonment of the rebel Angel Al Shehri.”
Other angry messages demanded "harsh punishment for the heinous situation," while another wrote "we propose blood."
Some social media users, however, have pushed back in defense of Al Shehri's, voicing support for her actions
