A veteran police officer fell to his death on Sunday night, while responding to a burglary call in Kiryat Shmona.
Northern District police spokesman Yehuda Maman said that officer Hani Trudi, 40, and his partner arrived at a grocery store and went up on the roof where they suspected the burglars were hiding. As Trudi was walking on the roof it caved in and he fell approximately 5 meters, landing on his head. The officer was rushed to Ziv Medical Center in Safed, where he died hours later.
Trudi, a father of three from the Druse village of Kisra-Sumei, had served as a patrol officer for 20 years, including eight based at the Kiryat Shmona station. His funeral was held at the village on Monday afternoon.
Israel Police Insp.-Gen. Yohanan Danino visited the family’s home on Monday.
On Sunday night, Danino referred to Trudi as “an excellent, experienced and veteran cop,” adding that his death was “a great loss for his family and the entire Israel Police.”
Northern District commander Asst.-Ch. Roni Atiya said “this is a painful moment for us and his family and we must all embrace his family.... Tonight we were reminded of the dangers police face in this line of work, defending the security of the public.”
