Hamas warned Israel on Monday against waging war on the Gaza Strip, saying this would “open the gates of hell” on Israel.
The warning was issued hours before the bodies of the three kidnapped Israeli youths were found near Hebron.
Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said that Israel bears responsibility for the latest escalation in the Gaza Strip.
“[Prime Minister Binyamin] Netanyahu should know that his threats don’t scare Hamas,” Abu Zuhri said. “If he wages war on the Gaza Strip, the gates of hell will be opened.”
Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal phoned Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan and briefed him on the “tragic” situation in the Gaza Strip and West Bank, Hamas officials said.
They said that Mashaal urged Erdogan and the international community to “move quickly to halt the Zionist aggression and lift the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip.”
