East Jerusalem Arabs arrested for video cheering rocket strike, showing site of impact
Lachish region police said that the men were arrested largely because in the video the location of the strike can be seen.
Ashdod police arrested three men from eastern Jerusalem on Wednesday for posting a video online where they can be seen cheering a rocket strike on Ashdod.They stand accused of incitement to racism, violence and terrorism, and of possible violations of anti-terrorism laws.Lachish region police said the men were arrested largely because the location of the strike can be seen in the video, possibly helping Gaza rocket crews direct their fire.In the video, which circulated widely on social media for the past 24 hours, the men, who are working in an Ashdod hi-rise can be heard cheering “Allahu Akbar” as the Code Red siren goes off and a rocket hits a site in the city, sending up clouds of smoke.The three construction workers, all in their 20s, were arrested at the building site. One of them had the phone that was used to shoot the video, police said.All three were questioned and released on bond on Wednesday police said, adding that they would decide later this week whether to issue an indictment.Other videos of Arabs in Israel cheering rocket strikes have made their way online this week, as well as a photo taken a week ago showing Israelis sitting on a hill overlooking the Gaza Strip and cheering air force strikes that went viral and was widely covered in the foreign press and to a lesser extent in Israel.
