Desert sounds come alive at InDNegev
The Western Negev will rock and roll, and probably a few other things, too, between October 10 and October 12 when the annual InDNegev independent music bash returns to Mitzpeh Gevulot for the seventh successive year.
The three-day gathering offers a rich array of talent and acts from the local underground scene, with over 80 shows lined up over the weekend. The concerts will feature the leading members of the local alternative music community, including one-off confluences, and will take place on two stages.
Many of the shows will be hosted in the new InDtronix compound which will be exclusively devoted to electronic music across a range of subgenres.
Elsewhere on the InDNegev program you can find a relatively mainstream act in the shape of pop star Evyatar Banai and instrumental music trio Tatran, which played at this year’s Red Sea Jazz Festival in Eilat, rock act the Israel Vaserman Band, and Dixieland-Swing band The Betty Bears.
In addition to the musical entertainment the Unknowing Land compound should keep the infant festival patrons happily engaged, while the Shabbat area will host workshops and classes on a wide range of topics, as well as communal prayer services and meals.

Agnes’ comes to Haifa
The Haifa English Theater presents John Pielmeier’s award-winning drama Agnes of God, directed by Betsy Lewis Yizraeli.
Soprano Maya Golan is Agnes’ voice, performing the musical interludes with vocal direction by Clive Noble. A court-appointed psychiatrist (Bertha Cafrey) and the Mother Superior (Ruth Willner) struggle with moral conflict during the investigation of the case of Agnes (Tova Giventer), a young novice nun who mysteriously becomes pregnant.
Agnes opens on October 24 and runs through till November 2.

AACI put on Sondheim’s ‘Company’
AACI’s J-Town Playhouse Theater Project presents its newest musical production of Stephen Sondheim’s Company.
Company follows our anti-hero bachelor Robert on the night of his 35th birthday, as he contemplates his unmarried state and his friendships with “those good and crazy people,” his married friends, in vignette after hilarious vignette.
As Robert weighs the pros and cons of married life he makes his way through this series of encounters during which we meet his three girlfriends, April (the stewardess), Kathy (the girl who’s going to marry someone else) and Marta (the “peculiar” one).
Company features a brilliant energetic score containing many of Sondheim’s best-known songs including “Another Hundred People,” “The Ladies Who Lunch” and “Being Alive.”
Performances will take place October 10 through 26 at Jerusalem’s AACI Center.
