Alleged underworld crime figure Moti Hassin acquitted of murder charges

Alleged underworld crime figure Moti Hassin was acquitted on Wednesday in the murder of Avi David at a Bat Yam restaurant in 2011.
Hassin is reportedly the acting boss of the Abergil crime family while former boss Yitzhak Abergil is incarcerated in the US.
Avi David, a former associate and friend of Hassin, was gunned down in Bat Yam. According to the March 2012 indictment, Hassin and fellow defendants Yitzhak Zerbi and brothers Shlomi and Ofir Niamchuk carried out the killing as part of Hassin’s efforts to establish his position as the new leader of the Abergil family after returning to Israel from Mexico.
Police had claimed that Hassin invited David to the restaurant for dinner, where he was gunned down in a drive-by shooting from a motorcycle.
All four men were acquitted of the crime at Tel Aviv District Court on Wednesday. Judge Ra'anan Ben Yosef wrote in his decision that state prosecutors had not established that any of the defendants had a motive to kill David.
The judge added that the prosecution had not proven "beyond a reasonable doubt," that the defendants committed the murder.
