Schools were scheduled to reopen in Ashkelon on Friday amid relative quiet experienced in the South on Thursday after three days in which more than a hundred rockets were fired into southern Israel from the Gaza Strip.

Ashkelon Mayor Benny Vaknin decided to cancel studies on Thursday after consulting with defense officials.

Six rockets have been fired at Israel from Gaza since Hamas said late Wednesday that it was ready to cease hostilities at Egypt's urging.
