Knesset members approved a first reading of a proposed bill that would charge customers a fee for plastic bags, Channel 2 reported Tuesday.

If the bill should pass, plastic bags would cost 30 agorot each, possibly with the fee dropping every few years. Lightweight produce bags would be exempt from charges, however.
