Cabinet approves NIS 220m. Kishon River cleanup

The Cabinet approved on Sunday a NIS 220 million plan to clean up the Kishon River and turn it into a local park and recreation center. The plan will be jointly funded by the government, companies responsible for polluting the river the last number of years, and the local authorities.
According to a government statement, 'the goal of the plan is to improve the quality of life in the Haifa Bay area and turn it into the green lung of Israel's northern metropolitan area."
The plan, expected to take three years, involves cleaning the polluted bed soil of the river and clearing sludge pools that have long collected dangerous amounts of pollution.
