Comedian Joan Rivers' condition remains serious, her daughter Melissa Rivers said in a statement on Friday, after the television personality was hospitalized following a cardiac arrest.

Rivers, 81, stopped breathing during a vocal cord procedure at a New York clinic on Thursday and was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital.

"Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible," Melissa Rivers said.
