Election officially begins with diplomats voting in New Zealand

Election Day may officially be on March 17, but voting will begin at Israeli missions abroad on Wednesday night.

Voting abroad will take place in 98 locations over 36 hours, with 6,250 diplomats, attaches, Jewish Agency-trained emissaries and their families having the right to vote.

The first votes will be cast at Israel's embassy in Wellington, New Zealand at 11 p.m. Israel time Wednesday, which is Thursday morning there.

The final votes abroad will be cast at the Israeli consulate in Los Angeles on Friday at 6 a.m. Israel time.

The largest polling place abroad is the consulate in New York, where 600 people have the right to vote.

The first ballot box to return from abroad will be the one from the Embassy in Amman, which will return on Thursday.
