Former IDF spokesman Yoav "Poli" Mordechai was promoted to the rank of Major General on Monday in a ceremony overseen by Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon and IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen Benny Gantz at the Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv.

Mordechai is now set to replace Maj.-Gen. Eitan Dangot as Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories.

Ya'alon praised Mordechai at the ceremony, saying, "Poli, I think you have an understanding of our neighbors, of the needs and challenges, as well as the experience and ability to maneuver in a given area. Therefore this task has been assigned to you."

"You come with a portfolio full of abilities, experience and skills to face the task well," he added.
