Health Ministry: Beware of non-doctors ‘prescribing’ medications

A “natural substance” that contained active medical ingredients was given to customers by an unauthorized “therapist,” the Health Ministry warned on Tuesday.
The substance, presented by the man as a “vitamin” to the parents of a child, contains Piracetam, which is actually a drug. Piracetam acts on the brain and nervous system and is sometimes prescribed to treat a movement disorder called cortical myoclonus that causes short jerky muscle movements, particularly in your arms and legs.
After the child took the “vitamin,” he was hospitalized in the center of the country. It could have endangered his life, the ministry said.
It warned the public that they must consult with a licensed physician before they take any substance recommended to them by individuals who are not medical doctors or pharmacists.
