Hollande: Last French hostage freed by al-Qaida's north African arm

PARIS - The last remaining French hostage in the world, who has been held since 2011 by al-Qaida's north African arm, has been released, President Francois Hollande said on Tuesday.
Serge Lazarev was held in the Sahara by AQIM for almost three years since being kidnapped in northern Mali in November 2011. It was unclear where exactly he was freed but Hollande said he was en route for the Nigerien capital Niamey.
"Serge Lazarev, our last hostage, is free," Hollande told reporters on official visit within France. "France has no more hostages, in any part of the world."
