Iranian FM Zarif, Assad meet in Damascus to discuss Geneva 2 conference

Iran's foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in the Syrian capital of Damascus on Wednesday morning for talks with top officials on the current preparations for the Geneva 2 peace talks on Syria's long-standing conflict.

Zarif met Syrian President Bashar Assad, to discuss the danger of terrorism for the region and around the world as well as the preparations for the Geneva 2 conference to be held in Switzerland on January 22.
Following his meeting with Assad, Zarif held a meeting with Mohammad Jihad al-Laham, the speaker of the Syrian parliament.
Later, Zarif visited Syria's foreign ministry for talks with top officials there, mainly his counterpart, Walid al-Moallem.
