Israeli guard Mekel on verge of being cut by Dallas Mavericks

Israeli basketball star Gal Mekel, who joined the NBA's Dallas Mavericks last year, will soon be looking for a new home.

According to media reports, Mekel will soon be waived or traded by the team so that it could make room on its roster for guard J.J. Barea.

Upon his release, Mekel will find it challenging to attract interest from other teams since the NBA season is scheduled to begin on Tuesday and all the rosters are for the most part solidified.

If Mekel fails to latch onto another team, expect him to either play in the NBA's developmental league or return to play professionally in Europe, perhaps even in Israel, according to Sport 1.
