As part of the city’s annual “Senior Citizen International Month” celebration, the Jerusalem Municipality will sponsor numerous activities throughout the capital Tuesday for its nearly 72,000 elderly residents. The event, held in coordination with the Council of Pensioners, Department of Senior Culture and Leisure and Department of Elderly Welfare, will include special activities for seniors throughout the day at all of the city’s 59 social centers.
Music, dance, theater and computer classes will be offered, along with fun excursions planned throughout the month. In a statement, the municipality noted that the city is taking increasing measures to improve the quality of life of its senior citizen community, which makes up nearly 10 percent of the total population. “The Department of Elderly Welfare is investing heavily in developing more services for the growing elderly community in Jerusalem and improving their neighborhoods,” it said.
