Kuwait Airways closes London-New York route after refusing to end 'no-Israeli' policy

Kuwait Airways eliminated service between London and New York City after it was threatened by the US government with legal action for refusing to sell tickets to Israelis.

According the report by USA Today, the controversy began in 2013 when Israeli citizen Eldad Gatt tried to buy a ticket from John F. Kennedy airport in New York to Heathrow airport in London. The airline would not allow him make the purchase.

That incident set off an investigation by the US Transportation Department, which determined in September that the airline did, in fact, break the law by refusing the sale.

In October, the US DOT ordered the airline to turn back its discriminatory policy. However, Kuwait Airways still refused, saying that Kuwaiti law forbids entering "into an agreement, personally or indirectly, with entities or persons residing in Israel, or with Israeli citizenship.”
