Lapid attacks Sa'ar's decision on Shabbat commerce in Tel Aviv

Finance Minister Yair Lapid (Yesh Atid) attacked Interior Minister Gideon Sa'ar's (Likud) decision that disallowed a Tel Aviv city by-law that would see city markets stay open on Shabbat. Lapid called the decision "outlandish."

"Just as religious Jews demand that the status-quo be maintained in Jerusalem, the most secular city in Israel has the right to remain open around the clock as it has been for many years," Lapid said.

"The minister's decision creates an unnecessary confrontation between religious and secular, does not contribute to the Jewish character of the state, and causes tensions in the city where everyone has coexisted peacefully," he added.
