Netanyahu opens ministerial committee to integrate Ethiopians: We will implement a cultural change

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the first meeting of the new ministerial committee for the integration of Ethiopian-Israeli citizens into Israeli society on Tuesday.
The committee was formed after Ethiopian-Israelis protested discrimination last month in the wake of a video in which police were seen launching an apparently unprovoked attack on an Ethiopian IDF soldier.
"A month ago we met here with representatives from the community of Israeli citizens who made aliya from Ethiopia and we heard very difficult things - we heard the depth of the pain, the feeling of humiliation and the various crises faced by the community, including the youth," Netanyahu said at the opening of the committee meeting.
Netanyahu called for "quick action," to solve the problems facing the Ethiopian-Israeli community in the fields of education, housing, employment, culture and religion.
He addressed claims of discrimination toward the community by authorities, saying that a clear picture of the situation must be presented so that the Israel Police can act accordingly.
Netanyahu said that the idea of racism is in opposition to Jewish values. "We cannot accept this in the Jewish state and we will fight against this," he said, vowing to implement a cultural change.
