Obama, national security team discuss developments in fight against IS

US President Barack Obama met with his National Security Council at the Department of State on Friday for a high level meeting on the latest developments in Iraq ans Syria, where an American-led military coalition has been striking Islamic State targets in recent weeks.
Obama was briefed on the situation on the ground, as well as that in the political echelons of the countries perhaps hardest hit by ISIS' advance.
The top security officials went over plans to help train, advise, and equip ground forces in Iraq, as part of efforts to stave off the jihadist group which has established a caliphate across parts of the embattled country.
The ongoing question of how best to support moderate Syrian fighters was also a point of focus, the White House said.
