Steinitz: Palestinian demand to freeze settlement building for extended talks not an option

International Relations Minister Yuval Steinitz charged Tuesday that the Palestinian demands to freeze settlement building and release more Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails in exchange for extending negotiations was not an option.
The Israeli position on the Iranian nuclear issue and peace negotiations with the Palestinians has garnered support from floor leaders of the US Congress, Steinitz told Israel Radio.
The leaders of the US Senate and the House of Representatives understand the main obstacle to peace is the Palestinian refusal to recognize the right of the Jewish people to their own state, he said.
Steinitz, who is accompanying Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on his trip to the US, added that  continued Palestinian incitement against Israel also stood as a main hindrance to reaching a peace deal.
