Turkish police detained a CNN reporter and his crew on Saturday during a live report at Istanbul's Taksim Square on the anniversary of last year's anti-government protests.

CNN's Istanbul-based correspondent Ivan Watson said Turkish authorities had released him half an hour after detaining him at the square.

On Twitter, Watson said the Turkish police had doubted the authenticity of his government-issued press pass when they seized him and demanded to see his passport.
