Growth in the Israeli economy slowed during the second half of 2011, inflation declined, the direction of monetary policy changed and the housing market contracted. We expect these trends to be typical of the economy in 2012 as well, principally in the first half of the year

Consumer Confidence Index
Bank Hapoalim’s and TNS Teleseker’s Israeli Consumer Confidence Index fell by 1.6 points in January to a level of 130.0 (April 2002=100). The Present Situation index fell by 1.2 points and the Expectations Index was down by 1.7 points.

Purchasing Managers (PMI) Index
The Bank Hapoalim and Purchasing Managers' Association's PMI for December 2011 fell by 1.1 percentage points to a level of 42.7 points, which is indicative of a contraction in manufacturing activity. Domestic new-orders dipped by 10.2 percentage points, making for 20 percentage point decrease in the last two months. Most index components declined during the month, including raw-materials prices which showed a downturn for the second consecutive month.
