Livni to decide on political future in 2-3 days

Former Kadima leader says her decision will depend on whether former prime minister Ehud Olmert decides to run.

Former Kadima leader Tzipi Livni would not reveal her political plans on Monday, saying she hasn't made a decision yet.

"To begin with, I said whether I return or not will be a function of joining someone else and whether there will be someone on the field that can lead and create a worthy alternative to the prime minister," Livni said at a conference at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya.

The former foreign minister said she has no interest in dividing up the Left-wing bloc.

As for the possibility that former prime minister Ehud Olmert may run in the current election, Livni said she gave him an "umbrella of time" to make a decision.

"His decision will influence mine," Livni said of Olmert. "This saga has continued for too long and will end in two to three days."

Livni also discussed decisions she made as Kadima leader, saying she paid a personal price for choosing to be in the opposition in the 18th Knesset.

"The opposition never makes the government fall. Governments take themselves down, and the question is whether an alternative to replace them can be identified," she stated.

Livni explained that for the last month, she has been meeting with party leaders and looking into whether an "opposing bloc with one set of priorities" can be formed.
