"Meretz does not sell spin in the way that Labor leader Shelly Yacimovich does," party leader Zahava Gal-On said Saturday evening on Channel 2's "Meet The Press."
Gal-On made the remark when questioned over why none of last summer's social justice movement leaders joined Meretz. She told Channel 2 that she has a great list with firm ideology, and that for Meretz, social justice and the drive to end the occupation are part and parcel.
She also touted that Meretz had successfully exerted influence over Yacimovich, leading to Labor's announcement last week that it will not join a coalition led by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. On the other hand, she said that Tzipi Livni and Yair Lapid would be sure to find a way to enter a Netanyahu-led government.
Addressing recent centrist efforts to create an "obstructing bloc" against Netanyahu, Gal-On said that she wasn't included in the discussions and has no need to involve herself in what happened. "I don't identify with the Center, I am Left," Gal-On stressed. She did mention, however, that following the whole affair, both Yachimovich and Livni lost support. "Only Meretz gained," she said, adding that it is the only party that does not "zigzag" and is the most transparent and ideological party.
