The White House announced on Tuesday that it was sending a seven-member presidential delegation to Poland to mark the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.The delegation to the commemoration, which will take place on Wednesday, will be led by Julius Genachowski, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.Other government officials on the trip include Hannah Rosenthal, the US's special envoy to combat and monitor anti-Semitism, and Susan Sher, who serves as chief of staff to the First Lady as well as a liaison to the Jewish community.The group will also include three Auschwitz survivors, Charlene Schiff, Edwarda Sternberg-Powidzki and Roman Kent, who is chairman of the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors.Israel will also be sending a delegation of political leaders under Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. The ceremony marks the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz and Birkenau camps in Nazi-occupied Poland. More than one of the six million Jews killed by the Nazis and their collaborators during World War II were at the two camps.The Associated Press contributed to this report.
