Japan urges Iran to engage constructively with US

Japan's Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone urged Iran to respond constructively to US President Barack Obama's initiative to hold diplomatic talks with Teheran, an official spokesman for the ministry said on Sunday. Nakasone made his plea during talks with his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki on Saturday. Japans Foreign Ministry spokesman Yasuhisa Kawamura said Iran's nuclear program also topped talks with Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak later Sunday. Nakasone is on a Mideast tour to promote nuclear global disarmament.
