Arab parties angry that election slip printer is in settlement

Chosen printer for election slips raises outrage with the Joint List, want printer inside Green Line.

The United Arab List expressed disappointment Sunday after the printer of election slips was revealed to be in Karnei Shomron, a settlement in Samaria.
“It’s long been clear that the Netanyahu government is the settlement government,” the List’s spokeswoman said. “Are there not enough printers inside the Green Line?” The Central Election Committee confirmed that Israphot Ltd. won the tender to print the slips of paper on which parties’ names and letters representing them are printed and that it is the sole such printer.
“They’re Israeli; there’s an Israeli flag there,” a committee spokesman said of the printer.
Religious-Zionist news site Srugim posted a video on Sunday of all 26 party names being printed on one sheet of paper, which later will be cut and sent to polling places.
Peace Now Secretary-General Yariv Oppenheim said that only in this case does the end – an election – justify the means of using a product of a settlement.
“There is something absurd in the fact that the factory for democracy slips is located in a place in which there is no democracy and there is still an occupation regime,” Oppenheim added.
Meretz leader Zehava Gal-On, who boycotts settlement products, did not respond to a request for comment by press time.
