American-born Yesh Atid MK Dov Lipman, who was not reelected to the Knesset, vowed Wednesday to continue serving the public.
Lipman, who gave up his American citizenship when he was sworn into the Knesset two years ago, was 17th on the list for Yesh Atid, which won 11 seats.
“Serving in the 19th Knesset was a remarkable honor, and I thank God for the opportunity that was given to me,” he said. “But let me be clear – I am not disappearing from public service. I plan to continue working from outside the Knesset on all the issues that are dear to my heart.”
Lipman said he would work on promoting unity, coexistence, tolerance, integration of the haredi community into the workforce and society, increased aliya, an easier absorption process, hasbara, public health, prevention of animal suffering, and environmental issues.
“I believe that Yesh Atid – despite a very complex election campaign – is here to stay and will continue to get stronger,” he said.
“Change takes time, and we will continue to work on our core issues to make Israel better.
I plan to remain an integral part of that process.”
Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid convened his party’s MKs and reassured them that they would stay together despite not all of them returning to the Knesset. He then took the day off to spend time with his family – including his son Yoav, who had come home to vote from Singapore, where he is studying for a master’s degree.
“We’re proud of the positive campaign we ran,” a Lapid spokesman said. “We went from single digits in the polls at the start of the election to double digits, and we will use that power to keep fighting for the middle class and the most vulnerable in society, just as we promised we would.”
