3. KEEPING IT REAL
The Tel Aviv Museum of Art presents an exhibition by Fatma Shanan Dery, winner of the 2016 Haim Shiff Prize for Figurative-Realist Art. Dery is a remarkable young voice in Israeli art today. Her paintings express a personal statement linked with her biographical roots. Oriental carpets are prominent in her work. 4. THE SOUNDS OF SPAIN
Modalius Ensemble is a local classic-ethnic group comprised of prominent soloists from the contemporary, classic, ethnic and jazz scene. 5. ALL WHITE NIGHT LONG
Tel Aviv’s major summer cultural tradition, Tel Aviv White Night, has been taking place on the last Thursday of June ever since UNESCO declared the city a World Heritage Site in 2003. All-night events throughout the city – from museum exhibitions and street tours to jazz concerts and dawn-closing times for shops, bars and entertainment venues – will be sure to keep you wide awake. Puerto Rican rapper and singer Daddy Yankee will perform as part of the Reggaeton concert in Rishon Lezion. Daddy Yankee (whose real name is Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez) rose to fame in 2004 with his hits “Gasolina” and “Lo Que Pasó, Pasó.” He has won 14 Billboard Latin Music Awards, and for his album Barrio Fino he received a Latin Grammy for Best Urban Music Album. 7. AN ILLUMINATING EXPERIENCE
Detroit-based Eisenhower Dance presents a visually striking evening of dance that cleverly pairs choreographers with lighting designers. The program consists of five short pieces: Bolero, Threads and Lightplay by Eisenhower; Spectrum by Stephanie Pizzo; and Laissez-Faire by Jamey Hampton. 8. SEE THE LIGHT
The international Light Festival returns to the Old City of Jerusalem. Huge light installations created by artists from around the world are placed at various historical sites.
