Five men were arrested for allegedly raping a young woman in Rishon Lezion in June and are due to face indictment in the coming days, it was revealed for publication on Tuesday.
The attack took place on the night of June 28th, after the complainant, aged 21, left a bar in the Ramat Eliyahu neighborhood of the city by herself while intoxicated. She was then set upon by a group of assailants, police said on Tuesday.
According to the Shfela police subdistrict, the men had met the complainant earlier in the night at the bar, and then allegedly attacked her after she left. Police said they took the victim to an apartment right behind the bar where a number of them lived, and then held her for several hours there against her will while raping her one after the other.
After checking surveillance camera footage from the alleyways around the bar and the hallways of the apartment building, as well as speaking to patrons at the bar that night, police on July 21st arrested eight suspects, including seven migrants from Eritrea.
On Tuesday, prosecutors from the Central District issued a pre-indictment motion against the suspects in the Rishon Lezion Magistrate’s Court. Police said they expect five of the men to be charged with rape, kidnapping, and false imprisonment.
Two of the suspects have already been placed under house arrest, and a third has been released without charges.
Police said they will request the court to order all five suspects be kept in custody until the end of legal proceedings against them.
