Former foreign minister Avigdor Liberman fiercely attacked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the Iranian issue on Friday, saying that he is not capable of handling it.
In an interview with Yediot Aharonot’s Sima Kadmon, Yisrael Beytenu chairman Liberman said the best way of preventing the nuclearization of Iran is by replacing Netanyahu.
“Netanyahu is not capable of dealing with the Iranian issue,” he said. “It is too big for him, all of it. I can use any cliche: ‘If you want to shoot, shoot, don’t talk.’ He is a dog that barks but doesn’t bite. But the bottom line is that we talked so much about all the options that no one takes us seriously anymore. And now that we are talking again, they are just laughing at us.”
Liberman warned in the interview that the Iran deal will lead to a nuclear arms race in the Middle East in which Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkey will try to join the nuclear club. He complained that the deal makes Iran a regional superpower. He said this would only grow the Islamic Republic’s appetite and chutzpah.
“To deal properly with the Iranian issue, you need to be creative, determined, and to know how to make difficult decisions,” Liberman said. “Netanyahu is none of those things.”
