Four teenagers have been arrested and will soon be indicted for a machine-gun attack on a school bus near Kafr Kasim last month in which 14-year-old Amjad Shawana was shot dead.
According to police, the suspects planned out the attack in retaliation for a minor incident with other teenagers, which involved some pushing during a previous school bus journey.
Police learned of a feud between pupils from Kafr Kasim and Jaljulya which erupted a few days before the shooting.
Shortly before 4 p.m. on October 8, the school bus came under attack as it drove through the Sharon District en route to Kafr Kasim. Several bullets fired from a machine gun shattered windows as they penetrated the bus, striking Shahuna and injuring a second youth, Souliman Omar.
The bullets were fired by youths who lay in ambush among olive groves on the side of the road.
In the subsequent weeks, an investigation by the Central Police District's Central Unit, overseen by Ch.-Supt. Tomer Cohen, began gathering information on the feud between groups of teenagers from the two towns.
"Some of the suspects have admitted their involvement in the murder," police said in a statement on Thursday.
Also on Thursday, prosecutors' statements against the suspects were submitted at the Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court, and a formal indictment is expected to be served next week.
The statement said that police were working with local councils in the area to help reduce levels of violent crime and firearm possession among the Arab Israeli community.
