Slain mob boss' widow attempts suicide?

Wife of Yaakov Alperon rushed to Kfar Saba hospital in apparent overdose.

Ahuva Alperon, widow of underworld kingpin Yaakov Alperon, who was slain in a car bomb attack in 2008, was rushed to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba on Tuesday morning after apparently overdosing on sleeping pills. She was found by paramedics in her Ra’anana home after an unknown individual contacted emergency services. She is said to be recovering.
The apparent overdose came after Ahuva’s son, Dror, was arrested for the second time within the past four days this week, on suspicion of extorting restaurant owners in the Sharon district and demanding they transfer used bottles to a recycling company he owns.
Three associates were arrested with him.
A Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court extended Alperon’s custody by a week after finding a “reasonable basis” for suspicions that the suspects extorted business owners, trespassed, and laundered funds.
Alperon’s attorneys, David Buhbut and Yaniv Segev, dismissed the suspicions, accusing police of setting out to harass their client. During the court session, the attorneys said police pushed the restaurant owners to file complaints against Alperon.
Police said NIS 50,000 in cash was recovered from Alperon’s home during Monday’s arrest.
Alperon was also arrested on Friday on suspicion of recklessly driving his motorcycle, and was released to 10 days’ house arrest on Sunday.
